A 2004 Ronald Ventura nude will be among the works of art to be auctioned on July 31 as part of the activities in Manila Art ’10, the biggest and most prestigious art fair in the country to be held at the Mall of Asia’s SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from July 30 to August 1.

Ventura’s "Nude 2," (10 x 14.5 inches, oil on canvas), is a stunning rendition of a naked woman’s back in the artist’s trademark luminous white and sepia tones, against a multi-colored curtain of orbs. Estimated to go for P80,000, the canvas belongs to Mendez Big and Small Art Co. which owns the biggest Ronald Ventura collection in the Philippines.

Ventura, 37, is a hot auction favorite, being one of the foremost contemporary visual artists in Southeast Asia today. His works sell for as much as $50,000 in respected auction houses worldwide, including Southeby’s and Christie’s.

In September last year, he held his first one-man show in New York, Metaphysics of Skin at Tyler Rollins Fine Art, following his successful collaboration with Singaporean award-winning artist Francis Ng called A Duad In Play held at the Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore in 2008. Ventura also held his first solo exhibit in the island nation in 2008, called Mapping the Corporeal, at the National University of Singapore.

Mendez Big and Small Art Co. has also offered three other paintings for auction: "Clown 3," (24 x 36 inches, oil/acrylic on canvas) a 2006 piece by Olan Ventura; Anton Mallari’s "Seduction," (48 x 72 inches, oil on canvas); and Aleah Angeles’ "A Pool of Tears," (48 x 72 inches, oil on canvas), both current works of the artists.
